GNSS Connectivity Guide (East Africa)

Field-ready settings for connecting your rover to Muya CORS over cellular or Wi-Fi: NTRIP caster details, regional APN tables, per-brand menu paths, and troubleshooting.

APN names and carrier settings can change. Confirm with your mobile operator or SIM provider before field work. A data bundle or active mobile data plan is required.

Muya CORS NTRIP connection

Use your portal receiver username and password. Port 2101 is the standard NTRIP port (nearest-base selection); port 2102 is used when you need a fixed single-base stream.

NTRIP LOGIN SETTINGS
Connecting IP: 173.249.45.63
Nearest Reference Station stream 2100

Connect to the nearest available CORS base station for optimal signal quality.

Single Reference Station stream 2020

Connect to a specific CORS base station of your choice.

Virtual Reference Station stream 2030

Connect to a network-averaged Virtual Reference Station for consistent accuracy anywhere within the network.

  1. Open NTRIP / Internet corrections on the receiver or controller.
  2. Enter the Muya CORS host and port from your portal credentials.
  3. Use your Muya CORS username and receiver password.
  4. Select mountpoint RTCM3 (or AUTO / nearest where supported).
  5. Connect and wait for RTK Fixed (typically 1–5 minutes with open sky and an active subscription).

Corporate firewalls must allow outbound TCP on ports 2101 and 2102 to the Muya CORS hostname.

East Africa cellular (GSM/LTE) APN settings

Install a local data SIM in the receiver modem or controller. Enable mobile data and enter the APN for the country you are working in.

Dial number *99# is standard for GSM modems. Leave username and password blank unless your carrier specifies otherwise. Prefer 4G/LTE where coverage allows.

Wi-Fi field setup

Wi-Fi is useful in camp, office, or when sharing internet from a phone hotspot. Ensure the receiver can reach the NTRIP host on TCP 2101/2102.

DHCP (recommended)

Use automatic IP (DHCP) on the receiver Wi-Fi client unless your IT team requires static addressing. Most phone hotspots and office routers assign addresses automatically.

Phone hotspot

Enable mobile data on the phone, turn on the hotspot, connect the GNSS receiver or controller Wi-Fi to the hotspot SSID, then configure NTRIP as usual. Keep the phone charged and within range.

Static IP (advanced)

Use static IP only when required by site IT. Record gateway, subnet mask, and DNS. Misconfigured static IP is a common cause of “connected to Wi-Fi but no NTRIP”.

Office / site Wi-Fi

Ask IT to allow outbound NTRIP (TCP 2101/2102) to the Muya CORS hostname. Guest Wi-Fi often blocks non-web ports.

Connectivity troubleshooting

Common issues when working in East Africa with cellular rovers.

SIM not registered or no data

Confirm the SIM is active, registered on the network, and has a data bundle. Test mobile data in a phone first.

Mobile data works but NTRIP fails

Check hostname, port (2100/2020), username, password, and mountpoint. Verify your RTK subscription is active in the client portal.

Wrong APN or authentication

Re-enter the APN from the GSM table for your country and carrier. Retry with blank username/password unless the carrier requires them.

Firewall / port blocked

NTRIP uses TCP port 2100 (nearest) or 2020 (single base). Office Wi-Fi or VPNs may block these ports—use cellular or ask IT to allow the Muya CORS host.

Login rejected

Use the exact receiver username from the portal, not your email login. Reset the receiver password in RTK → Machines if needed.

Wi-Fi connected, no corrections

The hotspot must provide internet with NTRIP ports open. Disable captive portals or “sign in to Wi-Fi” pages that block the rover.

Intermittent dropouts

Weak 4G coverage and SIM roaming cause dropouts. Prefer a local SIM in each country and stand in open sky for faster RTK re-initialization.

Subscription expired

Corrections stop when the licence expires. Renew in Services → RTK corrections before going to the field.
